In a new book, former President Trump plans to reveal 150 private letters he received, including one from Oprah Winfrey in 2000 that reads:



 * It's a shame we won't be running for office. What a group!



 * The larger context: Trump writes that he still thinks Winfrey is "amazing" but acknowledges that this is not mutual: Sadly, after I declared my candidacy for president, she never contacted me again."


What it means:

 The title of the book, "Letters to Trump," is a nod to the past, when well-known people often wrote friendly letters to each other and Trump was the toast of many famous faces.




The conversation with Winfrey is included in a book that will be released on April 25 by Winning Team Publishing, the same company that published Trump's "Our Journey Together" coffee-table photo book last year.


Within the first two months, sales of that book generated $20 million.


In the background: Letters from presidents, royalty, celebrities, and business titans are included in Trump's new book. He selected the letters from thousands that he had saved for more than 40 years and kept at his various properties.


For each, Trump adds a picture, his own remarks about the author, and some transcripts for those with difficult handwriting.


"Letters from Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Princess Diana, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Kim Jong-un of North Korea, Mario Cuomo, Arnold Palmer, Jay Leno, Liza Minnelli, and Regis Philbin are included in the book. My Dear Trumpster"), among other things.


After receiving an excerpt from his 2000 book "The America We Deserve," in which he stated that his "first choice for vice president would be Oprah Winfrey," Winfrey wrote to Trump.


He wrote, "Americans admire and respect Oprah for her intelligence and caring."

* She responds on letterhead that simply reads "Oprah": I must inform you that your remarks made me a little weepy.
